If the deck is permitted to sit closer than 1.2m to the side lot line, a privacy screen with a minimum height of 1.5m is required.

Any decks built under two feet above the finished grade do not require a permit.

Homeowners are responsible for providing notices of inspection readiness at various stages of the construction process. According to the city’s website, there are two mandatory inspections for residential deck building projects in the city — before backfilling foundations (piers) and after the project is complete.
